The Thunderbird Storm has the same chassis as the
Thunderbird, which we rode in 2009, but with 100cc extra
thanks to a larger bore. Cosmetically, most of the
components such as the fuel tank and seat are the same, but
the handlebars are flatter and a pair of Rocket 3-style
headlights are fitted. Oh yes, and everything, but everything,
is black. There’s no choice, if you don’t like black then get
something else. Most impressive is the is the air of solidity,
quality and integrity. Where a Harley-Davidson – the
T’Bird’s direct rival – irritates with shoddy detailing such as
crude footrest mounts and basic control levers, on the British
bike everything feels chunky and works smoothly.
That feeling of sophistication is maintained when you ride
away. The engine is laden with torque, significantly more so
than the standard Thunderbird, and it’s so low-revving the
motor thuds away at cruising speeds. The power delivery is
chocolate smooth and the fuelling flawless.
